Friday Dec 16, 2022
Friday Dec 16, 2022
Support for the Monarchy is lower in Scotland than the other parts of the Uk especially amongst younger people. This week's podcast is a meeting chaired by Alan Armstrong from the Radical Independence Campaign and is on the subject of a possible response to the Coronation of King Charles on 6th May 2023.
Taking part in the discussion is a panel including Maggie Chapman from the Scottish Greens, Tristan Gray from Our Republic, who organised a successful demonstration on Calton Hill in Edinburgh on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee.

Looking at the impact of war on women, this is a discussion between Maggie Lennon of Women for Independence and Ohla Maksochka. Before the Ukraine war, Ohla was a regional leader in Ukraine's leading feminist organisation. Now based in Scotland, she contributes her views of the war from a feminist perspective.
This discussion took place at the AGM of Women for Independence. Look out for more from that meeting in January.

Our special guest this week is author and academic Gerry Hassan. Gerry joined us in our studio to discuss some of the key ideas in his new book called Scotland Rising - the case for Independence (available at all good bookstores).
He explains how we can have a more nuanced discussion about Scottish independence if we realise that there are many ideas of Scotland and many ways of looking at the question.

War Zones and Nuclear Castles
Tuesday Dec 06, 2022
Tuesday Dec 06, 2022
Regular guest Bill Ramsay from Scottish CND joins us this week to bring us an update on issues gaining prominence from the war in Ukraine. The shelling of the nuclear power plant at Zaporizhzhia has highlighted the perils of nuclear power plants in war zones.
This is particularly topical as new nuclear power plants are being touted as a green solution to the climate emergency, which suggests an increase in this very dangerous scenario. Are new rules of engagement required to deal with the threat?
Bill takes us through the issues and also highlights an online event taking place at 7pm on 7th December looking at the Role of Peacemakers in Ukraine, a seminar with Professor Paul Rogers. Tickets are available from Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-role-of-peacemakers-in-the-ukraine-war-tickets-472554452087

Bits and Pieces Podcast November 22
Friday Nov 25, 2022
Friday Nov 25, 2022
This month we enjoy a welcome respite from the flurry of new Prime Ministers and Monarchs that has taken up so much of our attention since the summer.
Instead, this month we have something a little bit different - a selection of the best speeches and clips from the recent Opposition Day debate at Westminster. The topic for the debate was whether Scotland can afford to remain in the UK. This took place just before the result of the Supreme Court case but the points raised are still valid regardless of the process we have to go through to achieve our desired outcome of Scotland becoming a normal, independent country with fairness and the wellbeing of its citizens at its heart.
