Oppenheimer - A Campaigner’s Perspective
Friday Sep 15, 2023
Friday Sep 15, 2023
Christopher Nolan's new film Oppenheimer is described as an "epic biographical thriller". It tells the story of the physicist appointed to lead the work on the Top Secret Manhattan Project - creating the atomic bomb, used to such devastating effect against the people of Japan in 1945.
Bill Ramsay, a lifelong anti-nuclear campaigner asked if we would like to join him and fellow campaigner Isobel Lindsay to have a discussion about the film, the complex moral issues raised at the time and the impacts still felt today as the nuclear arms war continues to escalate.
The result was a fairly wide ranging and very interesting discussion. If you would like to watch the video version of this podcast you will find it on our Youtube channel.
We would love to hear what you thought of the movie so drop your reactions in the comments below!

Independence Centre Stage
Friday Aug 18, 2023
Friday Aug 18, 2023
An afternoon of live performances took place at the Roxbury Central Festival Fringe venue in Edinburgh this June. The event was created by Australian New Scot Jasmine Lindemann and was inspired by the contribution that the National Collective made to the 2014 independence campaign. The Indypodcast team were invited along to record the event and we had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. This week's podcast starts with an interview with Jasmine, who shares her refreshing and positive perspective on Scotland with the eyes of a newcomer.
We then showcase the performances from the event. Performers were:
Poet Myra Ross reads some of her poems on the theme of social justice and independence.
Author Cathy McSporran reads an excerpt from her novel Cold City in which she imagines two parallel but very different fates for Scotland
Glasgow based theatre group Action Theatre Scotland perform a scene from their play Alba, which has just finished a run at the Gilded Balloon as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Glasgow Comedy Festival hit The Sad Girls Club give us a hilarious glimpse into one of their club meetings
Photographer Richard Prow discusses his distinctive photographs from marches and events from his FB page Photies by Rick
Yes Stones and Yes Slates activists - and occasional podcast guests- Lynne Dougan and Neil Haston discuss the value of art as a non confrontational way to start independence conversations.
We are grateful to Jasmine and all the performers for sharing their work with us.

This presentation comes from the AGM of the campaign group Yes for EU. We are grateful to the Yes for EU for sharing the audio with us.
